» Miller Bonded expands its McLeod site

Mechanical contractor Miller Bonded Inc. is building a 16,000-square-foot pipe fabrication shop and warehouse and will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday at 9 a.m. The site is adjacent to MBI’s existing duct fabrication facility and offices at 4538 McLeod NE in Albuquerque.
“New construction in this region has been very limited, but we are confident that things will bounce back and when they do, Miller Bonded is going to be prepared to move ahead full force. That is why we have decided to initiate our own construction project,” said Ken Otteni, MBI president.
Those invited to attend the groundbreaking include Bernalillo County Economic Development Director Dan Gutierrez and Albuquerque’s chief building official Harry Dempsey. The city’s Green Path Program Manager Carmine Raia is also expected to attend.
MBI was formed in 1995 through a merger of Miller Metal Co. and Bonded Plumbing and Heating. The firm does both government and private work and is currently working on several education and lab projects. The company has about 185 employees and MBI’s construction project will put its employees to work, as well as other workers from more than 30 local companies. MBI is the mechanical and plumbing contractor on the job, while Freeman’s Finest will serve as the general contractor.
The project is scheduled to be completed in December. The pipe fabrication shop will supply pipe for MBI jobs as well as fabricating pipe for other mechanical contractors. MBI has produced pipe fabrication for many years, but with the focus primarily being for its own projects. With the new expansion, MBI said it will be able to produce pipe more efficiently for a higher volume of projects.
